Take TWO- Ready Set Go

Well, I am preparing for Week Two of summer school.  Last week was a blast for sure.  I really love working with younger children because they say exactly what they feel.  I wish I could share every story I experience but that isn't possible so I will share one little story and a few pictures.

JDoug went in the cafeteria to eat breakfast and this little boy in kindergarten sat down beside him and began to "chat."  He was so cute and he shared this little story.  I will attempt to spell the words as best I can to ensure you are able to have a true sense of his little words.

He said:

"I dot on de wong bus yeserday."
I said, "You did?" Then he said:
"I didn't eben know I was going de wong way!"

I thought we were going to crack up.  He was so cute.

Anyway, here are a few pictures from our week last week.

We had to make our girls in our class go to dance class.  One little girl looked at me and said, "you are kidding me right?  Like, you don't really plan to make me go to dance do you?  I mean, you do know that I am on the football team right?"  Haha, she is on the football team but she enjoyed dance!

That is my nephew in front and JDoug doing what he does best..............

It's Too Late To Turn Back Now!!!!!!

She is 18 and there is absolutely no way we can get yesterday back!

Wow, I just said that outloud as I typed it.  I told JDoug that I felt so much older with JDare turning 18 than I did when I turned......, well, the age I turned this year.  Shew!!!!!

Anyway, can't dwell on the obvious.  I am very grateful to have an 18 year old daughter who, on her 18th birthday, is home with her parents.  We are going to take in a movie and eat some Pizza Hut Pizza.  Doesn't get any better than that does it?

I did mention that she is here celebrating with us because she had knee surgery and can't get out of the house and drive anywhere, right?

Haha, all I can say is "timing is everything," and "God is good!"  I will take it!  She sits here on the couch as we speak and is frustrated about "this and that" and all I can do is look at her sitting there and laugh and be thankful that God has allowed us to raise her.  She is aggravating and irritating and I'd rather have no one else in the entire world to call daughter.

Here she is with her flowers and also a picture of her cake.

Hope you enjoyed your day pumpkin.............

School in the Summer.......... What?

Basketball coaching officially is a thing of the past for my husband, JDoug, and I with the graduation of our daughter.  He isn't completely hanging it up of course as we still have a son playing in high school but neither of us are working with the girls program this year which is new territory especially for JDoug.  It was a bittersweet feeling today not to call the "team" together for a camp because we typically had basketball camps every week during the month of June.  Now that we don't have that this year we have opted to do the unthinkable..........

Teach Summer School for the next 4 weeks.

Well, we just thought we could use the money and that maybe it would be a change of pace.

Let me add that when I was in school, a hundred years ago, that summer school meant "school work during the summer."  If you went to summer school you either had to retake a class that you had failed, or you took a class that would allow you to get ahead.

Well, things have changed............

Today was our first day of summer school.  JDoug  teaches high school age children and I teach a variety of ages but today we taught 4th graders (together-a huge risk for our marriage.........just kidding.......not really.......well, maybe.)  We were not sure what to expect as we arrived at the school this morning.  It wasn't good at all!!!!!!!

It was awesome.

Now when I say "taught" I don't really mean "taught."  We actually only have to teach math and reading and the rest of the day we just accompany our little students to the various activities that are scheduled for them such as dance (being taught by JDare and another teen) and soccer, and tennis (taught by the nephew who attends college) and crafts........etc.  Then each Friday we have field trips to the bowling alley, movie theater, and other local attractions.

Today, we had a total of 8 students in our 4th grade class (our nephew being one of them.....yes, we try and keep things all in the family-not really but it kind of works out that way) and as it turns out we also have another adult working with us.

I don't know how to say this any other way than to say it this way: This is by far the easiest money I have ever made in my life.

It has only been one day and even if the remainder of the month doesn't run as smoothly as today did I am happy that the hubby and I worked well together, enjoyed interacting with the kids we are working with, and were able to make good money all the while.

I will be sure to let you know if I stand by this post four weeks from now.  I have a feeling I will have plenty of post-worthy tales in the meantime.

Time to hoe our little garden.

The Day After..........it finally sinks in

Well, high school is now a thing of the past for my little girl.  Not even a small tear fell down my face yesterday (and yes, it was a LOT of work to accomplish that feat, especially enlight of the fact that I am by all definitions a "cryer")

The finality didn't just fail to show up or anything yesterday but I made a decision not to cry.  Actually, I knew that if I gave in to the emotions I was feeling that I would be unable to regain control.

Today, has produced slightly different results........

Here are a few special pictures from yesterday and I appreciate my S-I-L and other family members for taking pictures for us!

I am fortunate to have my beloved grandparents and am so grateful that my grandmother was able to attend (even though she did give us a scare and overheated a little in the morning heat but she is okay)

Here she is with her paternal grandparents

And with her uncle, dad, brother, and cousin

With my parents and another first cousin

With my sister and her boys
