School in the Summer.......... What?

Basketball coaching officially is a thing of the past for my husband, JDoug, and I with the graduation of our daughter.  He isn't completely hanging it up of course as we still have a son playing in high school but neither of us are working with the girls program this year which is new territory especially for JDoug.  It was a bittersweet feeling today not to call the "team" together for a camp because we typically had basketball camps every week during the month of June.  Now that we don't have that this year we have opted to do the unthinkable..........

Teach Summer School for the next 4 weeks.

Well, we just thought we could use the money and that maybe it would be a change of pace.

Let me add that when I was in school, a hundred years ago, that summer school meant "school work during the summer."  If you went to summer school you either had to retake a class that you had failed, or you took a class that would allow you to get ahead.

Well, things have changed............

Today was our first day of summer school.  JDoug  teaches high school age children and I teach a variety of ages but today we taught 4th graders (together-a huge risk for our marriage.........just kidding.......not really.......well, maybe.)  We were not sure what to expect as we arrived at the school this morning.  It wasn't good at all!!!!!!!

It was awesome.

Now when I say "taught" I don't really mean "taught."  We actually only have to teach math and reading and the rest of the day we just accompany our little students to the various activities that are scheduled for them such as dance (being taught by JDare and another teen) and soccer, and tennis (taught by the nephew who attends college) and crafts........etc.  Then each Friday we have field trips to the bowling alley, movie theater, and other local attractions.

Today, we had a total of 8 students in our 4th grade class (our nephew being one of them.....yes, we try and keep things all in the family-not really but it kind of works out that way) and as it turns out we also have another adult working with us.

I don't know how to say this any other way than to say it this way: This is by far the easiest money I have ever made in my life.

It has only been one day and even if the remainder of the month doesn't run as smoothly as today did I am happy that the hubby and I worked well together, enjoyed interacting with the kids we are working with, and were able to make good money all the while.

I will be sure to let you know if I stand by this post four weeks from now.  I have a feeling I will have plenty of post-worthy tales in the meantime.

Time to hoe our little garden.
